This just in! A truck carrying 40,000 pounds of hams crashed Thursday morning on Interstate 85 southbound near Atlanta, what a porktastrophy! (Miami Herald)

Oh the hamanity! What will families do without their ham for Christmas? I am sure we will be fine without the 20 tons of hams compared to what is still currently in the market, but this is still a big blow to the ham industry, especially at this time of the year. In my family we do not really have any specific Christmas meal traditions like we do with Thanksgiving (turkey and stuff),  but I would say we have more steak than pork or ham, although I still like ham equally as well as steak (the tie breaker ultimately lies with the bacon I must say, though). Aside from fancy meals, I usually eat more ham and cheese sandwiches and hot dogs than burgers or chicken (although the burgers come pretty close), plus you can never beat bacon, as everyone already knows. Although these hogs and countless others will not quite make it to the table this holiday, there are still pigs out there that will make it and will still taste delicious.

Focusing more on the accident itself, the truck driver was very lucky there to get away from it still alive. During the Christmas time the roads can be pretty bad, this makes driving way more dangerous and deadly. It is pretty saddening to drive on the interstate and see all the cars in the ditch. Man… It is a terrible way to start the holidays, but sometimes people do not even make it back home to their family, so as a warning, please drive safely in this bad weather, because it is better to be late than not there at all.

Whether you are staying home and eating your ham, or going to relatives for the holidays, stay safe out there on the roads. Enjoy your Christmas, spending time with the family, and the ham (or whatever else you may be having), as well as the new year revolutions, like working off those extra pounds after the holidays. It has been a pleasure to write these news blogs for 2013 and I hope to see you all again in 2014, unless something weird happens and the world ends. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
